“The Place for Conversation and Libation.”
What a storied history our basement bar has!!!
Did you know this below ground speakeasy was a regular stopping point for Big Al Capone when he and his crew made their runs between Chicago and St. Louis?
Did you know there are old, closed off tunnels around downtown where he stored some of that illegal booze?
And that when Big Al wasn't around, the Shelton Brother's Gang used the spot to control the gambling operations in this River City?
Did you know that our underground tavern houses an infamous ceiling to floor painting that drew the wrath of Carrie Nation?
Ok, so some of that info might be stretching the truth... (Except the Carrie Nation story! The painting was saved from her axe by a $50.00 donation to Carrie's temperance movement by the painting's owner. ) We hope you'll stop down and create some of your own history with us!
Richard’s on Main, an American pub and grill, is located in Downtown Peoria, IL in the basement of the historic Apollo Theater. We serve lunch, dinner, coffee, and drinks, but we’re most famous for our horseshoe dish -- an open-faced sandwich which consists of thick-sliced toast, a hamburger patty, French fries, and a secret cheese sauce. We’re the perfect venue for different kinds of events, ranging from bachelorette parties to college get-togethers.
As our customers like to say, we’re “The Place for Conversation and Libation.”
We're a short walk or shuttle ride from all of the downtown Peoria hotels. Dine-in or carryout, we've got your food needs covered.
